Cardiff City are closing in on the signing of Gary Madine and the Bolton striker could cost the club around £6m.

Neil Warnock has been chasing a striker all month and the club have been strongly linked with Lewis Grabban.

However, Madine was another on their radar and Bolton have already turned down several offers for their key man from the Welsh club.

And, Ian Dennis, a journalist for the BBC has revealed that the clubs are close to an agreement now with Madine set to cost the Bluebirds around £6m when he makes the move.

The 27-year old has been pivotal to Bolton, scoring ten goals and adding a further five assists so far this season, to a side that only has 26 goals to their name.

Therefore, the Trotters have been able to demand a big fee for the striker but it will seriously impact their chances of survival this season.

As for Cardiff, Madine will provide Warnock with a big goalscoring threat in an area of the pitch his side are struggling. Whilst impressing with his performances, first-choice number nine Kenneth Zohore only has four goals in this campaign.

The Verdict

The first thing to say is that it’s a very steep fee for Madine, who up until this season had only really excelled in League One.

However, he has matured as a player under Phil Parkinson and Cardiff will feel they are in a position to take something of a risk and if they get promoted nobody cares about the fee.

For Warnock, he is certainly enhancing his squad with this signing and it will wrap up a very successful window for Cardiff City. On the other hand, Parkinson will now have his work cut out to keep Bolton up.
