Cardiff City's Robert Glatzel has had an underwhelming debut season in English football, but he's got a few stories to tell.

The German joined from Heidenheim last summer. He was the marquee signing of Neil Warnock's final transfer window at the club, and he embodied everything that the 71-year-old ever wanted in a striker.

He's tall, effective in the air and prolific, or at least he was in Germany. Glatzel's four goals in 22 Championship appearances this season has seen him fall right down the pecking order under Neil Harris, and a summer exit looks all the more likely.

Nevertheless, he's a player that boasts clear ability, always gives his all for the shirt, and Cardiff fans have warmed to him and want to see him succeed.

After all, we all know how good a player Glatzel is - he scored a hat-trick against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena last April, just a few months before he signed for Cardiff.

Heidenheim were drawn against Bayern in the DFB Cup quarter-finals and would play out one of the games of the season in Germany, with Bayern running out as 5-4 winners - Robert Lewandowski coming off the bench to see his side through.

"Of course, my hat-trick at Bayern Munich is the best match for me personally. It was recently one year since that day," Glatzel told www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk when asked what the best match he ever played in was.

"I watched Bundesliga and Champions League games there and my former club, 1860 Munich, played there too when they were in the second division. I watched a lot of games there, so to play there and score a hat-trick was incredible."

Glatzel revealed all in this down-to-earth interview with the club, and had his say on one of football's hottest topics of the 21st Century - Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?

"For me, Cristiano Ronaldo," he explained. "Of course, Messi is up there on that same level too, but I personally prefer Ronaldo."

The verdict

It's baffling to think that this time last year, Glatzel was scoring hat-tricks past a near full-strength Bayern squad. Now, he's a little more than fringe player at Cardiff City.

A man with clear talent, but whether or not Harris is the right manager to get the best out of him remains unseen.
