Neil Harris has stated that his Cardiff City side were not good enough defensively after their FA Cup after defeat to Reading.

The Bluebirds led for the majority of the tie and were 2-0 up at one point but Reading showed resilience to fight back and force the tie to penalties.

The Royals came away with the win via the shoot-out, in yet another frustrating game for Harris' side, who were unable to secure victory from a strong position.

Cardiff are now out of both cup competitions and have just the league to focus on as they look to try and put pressure on the Championship top six.

After the game, Harris expressed his want for his side to turn draws into victories and was critical of the defence, who conceded three times–all from crosses.

Speaking to Dai Sport, Harris said: "Turning draws into wins is something we’ve fallen short of and that was the case over 120 minutes against Reading.

"We’ve conceded three goals from crosses, which isn’t good enough. The senior players are going to be disappointed."

The Verdict

It was yet again a disappointing result for Cardiff, as they didn't quite have the quality to kill off the Royals.

They drew with Reading in the league on Friday and have now lost to them in the cup which will have been a frustrating defeat to take for Harris.

After being 2-0 up, his side needs to learn how to see out games otherwise you feel they're never going to get anywhere near the play-offs this season.

The Bluebirds seem to have quite a good core to their side on paper but the defence haven't been at their best this season, which is unlike a typical Harris team.
