Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has posted an update on social media, admitting that he cannot wait to return to action.

The 29-year-old has spent the past few weeks on the sidelines, after suffering a hamstring injury in the defeat to Wigan Athletic on the opening day of the season.

The experienced shot-stopper has been an important player for Cardiff over the past couple of seasons and kept ten clean sheets in the Premier League last term, although he could not save them from relegation from the top flight.

Etheridge was ruled out for six to eight weeks with his injury and is expected to return to action at some point in October.

Cardiff are currently 13th in the Championship table after taking eight points from their opening six matches.

The Bluebirds are unbeaten in their last three league games and will be looking to continue their momentum against Derby County after the international break.

The Verdict

Etheridge was one of the standout players for Cardiff in the Premier League last season and it's a major blow that he's going to miss the first couple of months of the new campaign.

You've got to feel for the goalkeeper, it must have been very frustrating from him to suffer an injury in his first game of the new season and it's understandable that he can't wait to return to action.

The goalkeeper was magnificent when Cardiff last won promotion and kept 19 clean sheets in the Championship. After their slow start to the new campaign, he's going to have an important role to play when he does recover from his injury setback.
