Sky Sports report that Cardiff City are set to hand trials to Livingston striking duo Danny Mullen and Matthew Knox in the coming week.

As the older of the pair, at 22, Mullen is seen as someone who could slot straight into Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock's first team squad, as the former Sheffield United boss aims to continue the club's upturn in fortunes since his appointment in October 2016.

Warnock does not have anything like the budgets available to some clubs in the second tier, but has always prided himself on finding hidden gems.

He is likely to need to be similarly thrifty if he is to engineer a promotion bid in his first full season at the Welsh outfit, who have failed to make the Championship top six since their relegation from the Premier League in 2014.

17-year-old Knox, who previously had a trial with Manchester United, is reportedly seen as more suited to Under-23 football at this stage, where Craig Bellamy would be among those responsible for overseeing his development.

He is yet to open his goalscoring account at senior level, but his signature is reportedly highly sought after, with Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Rangers rumoured to be among the clubs in the hunt for the young forward.

His precocious talent is underlined by the fact that he was the youngest player in Livingston history, when he made his debut aged just 16 years and 4 days, on Boxing Day in 2015.
