Cardiff City submit €350,000 bid to secure deal for 24-year-old striker

Championship club Cardiff City have reportedly put in a bid worth €350,000 for Boavista striker Renato Santos, according to Portuguese newspaper Record.

It is speculated that the Portuguese Primeira Liga club are holding out for €1 million but it is unlikely that the Bluebirds will adjust their bid to that amount, given that owner Vincent Tan is intent on the club becoming more frugal in the transfer market.

Santos has scored just two goals in 25 appearances for Boavista since he joined them in 2015.

After a youth career at Sporting Club de Lisbon, he started his professional career at rival Portuguese club Rio Ave but only made 10 appearances for the club in a period that included a number of loan spells to teams including Moreirense, Aves, and Tondela.

The 24-year-old is considered to be a target man and with new Cardiff City head coach Paul Trollope releasing Kenwyne Jones this summer, it is alleged that he is on the look out for a new physical threat up front.

What do you think? Is this a shrewd signing by Trollope or does the lack of goals Santos has scored during his career a cause for concern? Let us know your thoughts below!
