Cardiff City midfielder Junior Hoilett has stated his ambitions to play in the Premier League once again with the club, and has spoken about Neil Harris' affect on him since his appointment last month.

The Canadian has won promotion to the Premier League twice - in 2014 with QPR and two years ago with Cardiff.

He was Neil Warnock's first signing as Cardiff manager after joining in October 2016 and despite relegation from the Premier League last season, believes he again play top-flight football with the Welsh club.

Speaking to BBC Sport Wales today, Hoilett said:

"Everybody's ambition is to play top-flight football.

"We have to push on from the last few results we have had. If we get the right results over Christmas, it will build our confidence going into the back-end of the season."

Cardiff currently sit 10th in the Championship after back-to-back wins extended Neil Harris unbeaten start as manager to three. His appointment last month wasn't met all that well by Cardiff fans, but the former Millwall manager has quickly won them over.

"The manager has brought in a new system and he has been a breath of fresh air. I think that's what the team needed," said Hoilett on Harris.

"He has been very organised defensively and offensively. You can see that in games. He has got the team back to being hard to beat. We are keeping clean sheets now and that's what you need to win."

Hoilett, 29, has played in all but three of Cardiff's league games this season and has started all three of the games that Harris has taken charge of:

"He could have picked anyone but he has shown belief in me," Hoilett explained. "From the minute he came in he told me to express myself."

Cardiff host bottom-placed Barnsley tomorrow. Harris will be expecting his squad to secure a third-straight win tomorrow but after picking up their first win since the start of the season against Hull City last weekend and their first under new manager Gerhard Struber, it won't be all that easy for the Bluebirds.

The verdict

Hoilett seems to have been around for an age and he's a player who's always got something a bit special in his locker.

He seems to have settled back into the squad under Harris and after solid wins leading up to the visit of Barnsley, there can surely be only one winner in South Wales tomorrow.
