New Cardiff City signing Aden Flint has explained the reasons why he has joined the club.

He has left Middlesbrough after just a year in the north-east as he believes his new club have a great opportunity to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Speaking to Cardiffcityfc.co.uk, Flint said: "I'm excited to be here and thankful for the opportunity.

"Everyone wants to play in the Premier League, and that's why I've joined. Hopefully we can get the right results, get promoted again, and have another opportunity to do that."

Flint becomes Cardiff's fourth signing of the summer and their second defensive addition after Curtis Nelson. It means Neil Warnock has a plethora of centre-backs to choose from now, although Bruno Ecuele Manga is a target of Guingamp.

The Bluebirds have signed Flint for a fee around £4m, and if he helps to achieve the aim of promotion he will be considered an astute signing.

The Verdict

Despite struggling at times last season Aden Flint has been one of the best centre-backs in the Championship in recent years, and has proved useful in both boxes.

Naturally, he has set his sights on the Premier League and moving to Cardiff should help him realise that goal, although it will have to happen in the next few years as he is not getting any younger at 30.

He has experience of promotion and has a winning mentality which is likely one of the main reasons why Warnock brought him in. Flint has already set his sights on the Premier League and will hope his ambition can influence the rest of the squad.
