Sky Bet Championship strugglers Cardiff City are showing a keen interest in Aberdeen player Jonny Hayes, and are tempted to offer up to £500,000 for the winger's services, reports the Daily Mail.

The winger has been one of the Scottish club's best players this season, and although he has been in negotiations with the Dons over a new contract, which expires in the summer of 2018, a huge wage boost the Bluebirds would mildly tempt Hayes to a south Wales move.

He has bagged six goals this season to help his side climb up to third in the Scottish Premiership, with fellow Championship outfit Wigan Athletic also said to be rivalling Cardiff for this player.

Manager Neil Warnock released Kieran Richardson and Marouane Chamakh prior to the opening of the January transfer window, so the Bluebirds have freed up some wages and they may need a prolific wide man to get them out of their current relegation scrap.

Jonny Hayes has had numerous spells at several teams in England.

Having started his career at Reading, he was released by the Royals in 2007 before signing for Leicester City and spent two years there which included loan stints at Northampton and Cheltenham Town.

In 2009 Hayes made the permanent switch to Scotland to join Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Cardiff City supporters, would you take Jonny Hayes at the club? Can he help you survive the drop? Is £500,000 too little or too much? Let us hear your opinions in the comments below!
