A reliable football journalist expects Cardiff City to sign Omar Bogle today.

According to Alan Nixon, Cardiff City are on the verge of signing Omar Bogle from Wigan Athletic on a permanent deal.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock has been looking for another striker to take the pressure of leading marksman Kenneth Zohore.

His search has led him to Omar Bogle, who has been placed on the transfer list by Wigan Athletic because he does not suit their style of play.

New manager Paul Cook, who arrived this summer, is willing to sell Bogle, less than seven months after Wigan snapped him up on transfer deadline day.

Bogle's time at Wigan was hampered by injury but he managed to three times in twelve starts for the Latics as they were relegated from the Championship.

Prior to the move, the 24-year-old had scored nineteen goals in 27 league games for newly promoted Grimsby Town, making him the top scorer in League Two at the time.

The former West Brom, Birmingham City and Celtic trainee had to work his way back up the Football League via the non-league route.

The 6ft 3in striker played for Hinckley United, Solihull Moors and Grimsby Town in non-league before helping the Mariners win promotion to the Football League via the National League play-offs.

Bogle is now set to be unveiled as a Cardiff player with a "good fee" being received by Wigan.

The Verdict

Cardiff City appear to have beaten a number of teams to the signing of Omar Bogle.

The 24-year-old is still young, knows where the net is and provides blistering pace and incredible strength to the forward line.

His arrival should help Zohore carry the burden of the side.
