Cardiff City expect to finalise a deal to sign Greg Cunningham from Preston North End, according to HITC Sport.

The Bluebirds are hoping to wrap up a deal for Cunningham today, just one day after they signed Josh Murphy from Norwich City.

Cardiff's summer recruitment drive is in full swing now as Neil Warnock desperately seeks reinforcements to ensure his side are well-equipped for a relegation battle in the Premier League.

After winning automatic promotion on the final day of the season, the Welsh club are now hoping to poach some of the best players from the second tier for their campaign in the top flight.

And after chasing Cunningham last summer, Cardiff have reignited their interest in the left-back and appear close to securing his services.

The 27-year-old spent most of last season out injured and he is entering the final year of his contract so Preston have allowed him to head to Cardiff for a medical and to hold talks over personal terms.

The former Manchester City academy graduate joined Preston in 2015 after spending three years with Bristol City.

Since his switch to Deepdale, the four-cap Republic of Ireland international has proven his reliability as a full-back in his 111 games for the club.

The Verdict

At this stage of his career, Cunningham probably sees this as the perfect time to head back to the Premier League.

With Fulham eyeing a £2m move for Joe Bennett, Warnock is capturing this left-back as a possible replacement but he will be hoping that the two can compete with each other for the starting spot.

Cunningham has proven that he is dependable and consistent in the Championship and he will be hoping to continue in that fashion in the Premier League.
