According to the Daily Mail, Cardiff City have been priced out of a move for Diafra Sakho in January, with West Ham United’s £15m asking price too much for the Sky Bet Championship outfit to pay.

Sakho is keen to leave West Ham in the New Year, with the striker’s opportunities so far limited this season in the Premier League, with Cardiff one club keen to offer the striker a route out of the London Stadium.

However, any deal between West Ham and Cardiff appears to have broken down, with the Championship club looking to secure a loan move with the view to a permanent deal, whilst the Hammers were asking for a mammoth £15m for the striker.

Sakho, 27, has four goals across all competitions for West Ham this season, and was amongst the scorers during Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Stoke City, which further eased the Hammers’ relegation fears.

Whilst Sakho and West Ham are looking to stay in the Premier League, Cardiff are looking to join them, with Neil Warnock’s side going well in the race for promotion in the Championship.

The Bluebirds currently sit second in the Championship table, trailing Wolverhampton Wanderers by just four points heading into the festive period.

The Verdict

This is frustrating news for Cardiff, who would have benefitted from the quality of someone like Sakho in January, particularly due to their mounting injury concerns.

West Ham are clearly looking to strike a permanent deal in January, but the New Year window always throws up some surprise transfers and there is every chance Cardiff’s interest in Sakho is not yet over.
