Stoke City are rumoured to be rivalling Cardiff City in the race to sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans, according to Football Insider.

Evans' contract with the Lancashire-based club is set to expire at the end of this month, and it seems as though he isn't short of potential suitors heading into the 2021/22 season.

The Northern Irish international has made 220 appearances in total for Blackburn, after signing for the club back in 2013, after a spell with Hull City.

He made 20 appearances in the 2020/21 season, and chipped in with two assists this term, as Tony Mowbray's side finished 15th in the Championship table.

Cardiff City are rumoured to be keen on reaching an agreement with the 30-year-old, as Mick McCarthy looks to add additional depth to his midfield options, after narrowly missing out on a top-six finish in the second tier last term.

Whilst Stoke finished 14th in the Championship table, and will be hoping new summer signings can see them make a serious push for the play-off positions this season.

Blackburn have previously revealed that Evans will leave the club when his contract reaches a conclusion this summer, and it'll be interesting to see which club he heads to ahead of the new league campaign, which is set to get underway in August.

The Verdict:

He could prove to be a useful addition for either Stoke City or Cardiff City.

It would be somewhat of a risk-free move for either side, as there wouldn't be any element of risk, as Evans has a considerable amount of experience of playing in the Championship in his career so far.

Stoke are probably more likely to be able to offer him regular game time on a consistent basis, especially if both Sam Clucas and Ryan Woods are to depart this summer.

But Cardiff are arguably more likely to challenge for promotion into the Premier League this season, so Evans will have a tough decision to make on his future.
