Cardiff City have confirmed that forward Lee Tomlin has been ruled out of the game against Derby County this evening after he was involved in a car accident earlier this week.

The 30-year-old had started the last three matches for Cardiff, although the club have confirmed that he will miss the game at Pride Park tonight after suffering whiplash.

Tomlin did not feature at all of Cardiff last season and spent the second half of the season on loan at Peterborough United in League One.

He was not included in Neil Warnock's squad for the first three matches of the new season, but made his return to the starting line-up and impressed during the 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town last month.

Cardiff were relegated from the Premier League last season and have made a slow start to the new season in the Championship.

The Bluebirds are currently 13th in the Championship table and are without a win in their last three matches in all competitions.

The Verdict

This is worrying news for Cardiff fans. Tomlin's performances over the past few games have been very encouraging, especially when you consider how long it had been since he last played at this level.

He's a talented footballer and is one of those players who is capable of producing moments that can change matches.

Hopefully his injuries aren't too serious and Cardiff fans will hope that he'll be able to return to action soon, as they have some tough fixtures coming up and they need to start picking up wins if they're going to challenge for promotion this season.
