Cardiff City on the brink of confirming Wolves transfer capture

Cardiff City are set to announce the loan signing of Wolves defender Ryan Giles today, according to Football Insider.

It has been a fairly start to the summer for the Bluebirds, who have brought in Mark McGuinness and James Collins from Arsenal and Luton respectively.

Their third signing of the summer is on the horizon, too, with Wolves defender Ryan Giles set to pen a loan move to South Wales.

Giles spent last season on loan in the Championship with both Coventry City and Rotherham United, making 44 appearances across all competitions in 2020/21.

20 questions about some of Cardiff City’s biggest ever moments in their history – Can you score full marks?

In which season did Cardiff City win the FA Cup?

The left-sided defender, who can play as a wing-back or further forward, is now set to spend another season away from Wolves out on loan.

According to Football Insider, Cardiff are set to announce the season-long loan addition of Giles today, having beaten off interest from a host of Championship clubs.

Giles is under contract at Molineux until 2025 and is clearly one for the future in the Black Country, but he has made only one appearance for the first-team.

The Verdict

I think Giles is a very positive signing for Cardiff as Mick McCarthy continues to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.

He is a young player who had plenty of experience in the Championship last season, and I was particularly impressed with his spell at Coventry.

He gets forward well and offers plenty of energy down the flank, and he could prove to be perfect competition for Ciaron Brown in South Wales next season.
