As new Cardiff City manager Neil Harris prepares for his first game in charge of the Bluebirds away to Charlton Athletic, he has been speaking to the press about the January transfer window.

The winter transfer window can be make or break for a team's season as one signing could be the difference between making the play-offs or suffering relegation at the end of the season.

When speaking about the January transfer window, Harris said: "I’d like to lean on Under 23s but only if they’re good enough.

"James McCarthy has great work ethic and wants players to come through.

"I’m trying to avoid questions on the January window as we’ve got three games this week. We might be a bit light in a few areas but we need to give players like Jazz Richards the opportunity to get fit.

"We have 40 days between now and January, the first 15 days are so important. Then we’re looking at 30 days where we have to get the right balance and right numbers in the squad."

Cardiff currently have a talented pool of players in their under-23 side, with the likes of Ciaron Brown, Cameron Coxe, Aaron Bolger, Shamar Moore, James Waite and Dan Griffiths all being highly-rated by the academy staff.

Brown, Coxe, Moore and Waite have all appeared for the Bluebirds first-team while Bolger and Griffiths have had experiences of first-team football elsewhere.

Having been in the Cardiff hot seat for less than a week, Harris will still be assessing the squad and deciding which players he likes and wants in or around the first team.

The Verdict

Cardiff have helped to produce a few talented footballers over the years as their academy continues to produce prospects which could one day be considered good enough to play for the Bluebirds first team.

Harris is right to be having a thorough scan of the under-23s side at Cardiff as it could save him some money when January comes around as he could always use an under-23 player to fill the gap if anybody departs during the winter transfer window,
