Cardiff City have announced that they have appointed Neil Harris as their new manager until the summer of 2022.

Harris has been out of work since he left Millwall earlier this season, but is evidently keen to get back into work in the Championship this season.

He guided Millwall to a 21st place finish in the second tier last term, but revealed in an interview that it was the right time to step down from the managerial post in this year's campaign.

Cardiff could prove to be an exciting challenge for the 42-year-old as well, with the Bluebirds currently sat 14th in the Championship table with the international break upon us.

Speaking in an interview with Cardiff's official website, Tan Sri Vincent Tan expressed his delight at the appointment of Harris, and highlighted the new manager's enthusiasm as a real attribute of his.

"I am pleased to appoint Neil as First Team Manager of the Club.

"I have full confidence in Neil due to his principles on and off the pitch and enthusiasm to succeed. I am glad to offer him this opportunity and look forward to seeing what he is capable of achieving with Cardiff City."

Harris' first game in charge will be against Charlton Athletic after the international break in what is certain to be a tricky test against Lee Bowyer's side who will be keen to get back to winning ways after a recent slump in form.

The Verdict:

It's good to see them wasting no time in appointing their new manager.

Harris did a steady job with Millwall, and he will have been key to make a name for himself at another club at the earliest of opportunities.

Cardiff are a team that are under-performing, and Harris will assess the squad before making any additions to his side in the January transfer window.

I think this could prove to be a smart bit of business by the Bluebirds.
