Cardiff City have identified Kilmarnock striker Eamonn Brophy as a potential target as Neil Warnock looks to add firepower to his squad ahead of the new season.

The 23-year-old was a key player for Steve Clarke's side last season, scoring 12 goals as Killie reached the Europa League. His form saw Clarke give the forward his international debut this summer too when he left for the Scotland national team job.

However, this season has got off to the worst possible start for Brophy and his teammates as they lost to Welsh part-timers Connah's Quay over two legs in their first European tie.

And, according to the Daily Mail, the Bluebirds will look to take advantage of that by swooping for the forward who is valued at around £1m. As well as that, the report states that the Scottish outfit are willing to listen to offers for the player despite his importance to the team.

Warnock will be on the lookout for at least one new face in the final third after target man Kenneth Zohore was sold to West Brom for around £8m on Friday.

The Verdict

Cardiff clearly need new strikers in and Brophy would be a low-risk move that could have big rewards.

The former Hamilton man is extremely hardworking, which Warnock demands from his players, and would fit right in as he runs the channels and stretches the opposition.

Additionally, he proved last year that he has an eye for goal, scoring at crucial moments in what was a very impressive campaign for him and the club.

A lot has changed at Rugby Park in the past few months though, so the chance to move to the Championship may appeal and this would be a smart signing for Cardiff, although another new striker may still be needed.
