Cardiff City's offer to sign Greg Cunningham has been rejected by Preston North End, according to HITC Sport.

According to sources close to HITC Sport, Preston North End have turned down a bid of roughly £2m from Cardiff City for left back Greg Cunningham.

With time ticking and the transfer deadline drawing nearer, Cardiff City are stepping up their hunt for a new left back.

Greg Cunningham has been a longstanding target for the Bluebirds this summer but they are now upping their efforts to land him amid rumours of Joe Bennett's move to Fulham.

Fulham are in advanced talks with Joe Bennett over a switch to Craven Cottage as they seek a replacement for Scott Malone, who joined Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town.

With Bennett set to leave, Warnock has identified Greg Cunningham as the perfect replacement.

The 26-year-old has been a regular in Preston's side since joining from Bristol City in summer 2015.

With ninety Preston appearances to his name over the past two seasons, Cunningham has emerged as a fans' favourite and an occasional captain for the Lilywhites.

Preston are keen to keep him and there are still two years left to run on his current deal so they are not under pressure to cash in.

The Verdict

Greg Cunningham is one of those players that goes under the radar.

In the last two seasons, he has churned out reliable and consistent performances for Preston North End without getting the plaudits that he perhaps deserves.

If Joe Bennett leaves, the 4-cap Republic of Ireland international is a more than adequate replacement.

Warnock will be keen on him as he offers consistency, professionalism and experience at this level.
