Championship side Cardiff City are interested in a shock move for Rickie Lambert, according to Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones.

Lambert joined the Midlands club from Liverpool last summer for a £3million fee but has found no success under Tony Pulis' stewardship and is undoubtedly looking for a move away today.

Aston Villa were vying up a move for the 34-year-old this summer, but now it would seem Cardiff are eyeing up a deadline day move for the striker.

Paul Trollope's side are a squad lacking goals at the moment with a complete overhaul of their strike force this summer still providing now improvement in goalscoring.

A deadline day move for a striker would not be out of the question, but whether a move would be permanent or a loan deal is not year clear.

The Baggies are set to sign former Reading man Hal Robson-Kanu today, pushing Lambert further down the pecking order.

He may feel the Championship, a division where he scored 27 goals at Southampton, may be the place to end his career on a high.
