Neil Warnock will be looking to bring several players to help his Cardiff City squad through their bad run and one target is believed to be Bolton striker Gary Madine.

That's according to Wales Online, who have stated that the Trotters forward is a key name on Warnock's January wishlist.

Despite an awful run over the festive period, with Cardiff losing their previous four Championship games, they still remain third in the league and have a great chance of securing automatic promotion this season.

However, the Bluebirds will need to improve and one area that stands out is in front of goal. Cardiff have scored once in their last three games and Junior Hoilett and Joe Ralls are the Welsh sides top scorers with just six goals each.

Whilst the return from injury for Kenneth Zohore will be a big boost, with Danny Ward now injured and Omar Bogle yet to prove himself at this level, a striker is needed.

Madine has nine goals for struggling Bolton who will be reluctant to sell. He has over a year left on his contract and the position of Phil Parkinson's side means the ex-Wednesday man's goals will be vital if they are to stay up.

The Verdict

Gary Madine would be a great signing for Cardiff and exactly what they need. He has the physicality and ability to play with his back to goal that Warnock needs from his strikers and is finding the net regularly now.

The striker has had issues over the years but finally looks to be settling and would surely jump at the chance to join Cardiff who could potentially be in the Premier League by May.

Of course, the big issue will be convincing Bolton to sell and whether Cardiff have the finances to do that. If they can it would be a fine signing for the club.
