Former Cardiff City striker and club icon Jay Bothroyd has had his say on Neil Harris's time in charge of the Bluebirds, stating that the team have not improved under his leadership.

The 37-year-old, who continues to ply his trade for Japanese J1 League side Hokkaido Consadole Sapproro, responded to a tweet by Cardiff City Online which asked the fans whether they had seen an improvement under the new manager or not.

Bothroyd made his feelings known about how Harris has done in his time in charge so far, criticising the club's decision.

In the tweet, Bothroyd made the claim that Harris was yet not a proven Championship manager, having had just two-and-a-half years of experience in the division whilst in charge at Millwall.

He also made it clear that his appointment looked like "a cheap option" compared to other managers that were available at the time, such as Chris Hughton; who has achieved three promotions from the Championship during his management career.

Harris has amassed a win percentage of 33.3% out of his 15 games in charge of the Bluebirds, which is lower than his predecessor, Neil Warnock.

After a bright start which saw three wins in his first four games in charge of the Bluebirds, the club have won just once in the league since of the beginning of December under Neil Harris.

Cardiff have become the league's draw specialists in recent weeks, with a total of five stalemates in their last seven league games, including two more in the FA Cup.

Bothroyd made a total of 133 appearances for Cardiff City during a three-year spell at the club, scoring 45 goals.

The Verdict

This is strong criticism from Jay Bothroyd towards Neil Harris, which will do the side no favours at all in the situation they find themselves in.

However, he is entitled to his opinion, and many fans shared his view at the time of the appointment.

Harris has got a critical couple of months ahead in charge of the Bluebirds to try and lift the side back up the table during the remainder of the season, as they sit in 13th place in the league standings at present.
