Cardiff City have completed the signing of striker Robert Glatzel from Bundesliga Two club Heidenheim.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-year-deal with the Bluebirds and joins for an undisclosed fee, understood to be worth £5.5million.

The centre-forward becomes Neil Warnock's seventh signing of the summer and is a replacement for Kenneth Zohore, who left the club to join West Bromwich Albion earlier this month.

Glatzel scored 17 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions for Heidenheim last season, including a hat-trick against Bayern Munich.

He also grabbed a hat-trick in a pre-season friendly win over Middlesbrough earlier this month and will be hoping to make a big impact against other Championship teams this season.

The German could make his debut for Cardiff against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on the opening day of the season this weekend.

Cardiff will be hoping to challenge for automatic promotion from the Championship this season, following their relegation from the Premier League last term.

The Verdict

This could be a great signing for Cardiff and a good replacement for Zohore. The Bluebirds needed some more firepower upfront and Glatzel should be able to provide that.

Even though he has no experience of English football, his goalscoring record in the second tier Germany is very impressive.

I think he's capable of making an impact in the Championship and it will be interesting to see if he can handle the pressure of being Cardiff's main striker this season.

He's a strong, powerful centre-forward and will provide the Bluebirds with a big physical presence upfront.
