The news filtered through yesterday evening that Cardiff City had parted company with their long-time manager Neil Warnock following a run of poor results which included defeats to rivals Bristol and Swansea City in recent weeks.

The 70-year-old's departure brings about the first managerial change at the Cardiff City Stadium in three years, with Warnock having done a good job overall for the Bluebirds, with the main highlight of his tenure being the 2017/2018 Championship campaign, in which they gained promotion to the Premier League as league runners-up.

However in more recent times, the Bluebirds have suffered the ignominy of being relegated from the Premier League last season and have started the current campaign in an extremely poor fashion, picking up just 21 points from their opening 16 games of the season.

Sections of the Cardiff City faithful will surely be pleased to see Warnock move on with his reputation largely intact, his footballing philosophy has come across as largely outdated this season, with the former QPR boss favouring a more direct approach as opposed to a more possession-based style.

Much of the fans' frustration has boiled down to the lack of attractive football that was being played by the Bluebirds under their former boss, with the Welsh club largely lacking any form of creativity from central or wide areas, meaning Cardiff had to rely heavily on set-piece situations to score goals this season.

With a new man set to come in soon, the club's supporters will be hopeful of seeing the dawn of a fresh new era in the not too distant future, with the club just seven points off the play-off places, there is still plenty to play for and they could well resurrect their promotion push after what has been a sub-par start for the Bluebirds so far.
