Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has posted an update on social media as he prepares for the start of the new season.

The 29-year-old was an important player for Cardiff last season and kept ten clean sheets in 38 Premier League appearances, although he was unable to save them from relegation from the top flight.

The goalkeeper has posted a message to Cardiff fans on his personal

/">Instagram account, admitting that he cannot wait for the start of the new season.

Etheridge wrote as part of his message on Instagram: "Count down for the season to start is well and truly on. Only a couple more days now. Can’t wait to get back into the swing of it again!"

Cardiff will be one of the teams hoping to challenge for promotion from the second tier this season, following their relegation from the Premier League last term.

Etheridge was outstanding when Cardiff last won automatic promotion from the Championship in 2017/18, keeping an impressive 19 clean sheets in 45 league appearances.

The goalkeeper will be determined to ensure the team get off to a good start against Wigan Athletic in their opening game of the season at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

The Verdict

I'm sure Etheridge and his Cardiff teammates cannot wait for the start of the new season, after a few weeks of tough pre-season training.

The goalkeeper was linked with a move away from the club this summer, but it is absolutely vital that Cardiff were able to keep hold of the shot-stopper.

He's a very talented goalkeeper and was magnificent when Cardiff won automatic promotion from the Championship in 2017/18. I'm expecting him to play another important role for the Bluebirds this coming season.
