Cardiff City are interested in signing Fleetwood Town winger Paddy Lane, a report from Football Scotland has claimed.

Lane enjoyed an impressive first campaign with Fleetwood last season, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in 37 League One appearances for the club.

Now it seems as though that has seen the 21-year-old attract plenty of attention from further up the football pyramid.

According to this latest update, Cardiff have shown an interest in Lane, as they continue what has been a busy summer of incomings at the Championship club.

However, they are not alone with their interest in the winger. Scottish Premiership side Hearts are also thought to be keen on Lane, while West Ham are among the Premier League clubs who have reportedly scouted the 21-year-old.

As things stand, there is just a year remaining on Lane's contract with Fleetwood, although it is suggested that the Lancashire club are still holding out for a fee in the region of £1million for the winger.

The Verdict

You get the feeling this could be a rather useful signing for Cardiff City.

Given he has only spent one season playing League One level, and with a club that found themselves battling against relegation, this would feel like a big step up for Lane.

However, when you consider the players they have already added to their squad, it could be argued that he would not have to be a regular starter immediately, while his record for Fleetwood suggests he could still make an impact when called upon.

At his age, Lane does have the time on his side to take that sort of route, meaning this could be a move that suits all parties if it happens.
