Cardiff City are close to tying up a deal for Venezuelan defender Rolf Feltscher, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon on a post released on Twitter.

The 27-year-old spent time training with Birmingham City in the summer under former boss Harry redknapp, but a permanent deal for the player failed to materialise.

Born in Switzerland, Feltscher has represented Venezuela since 2011, and is keen to get back into club football having seen his trial spell with the Blues come to nothing.

Nixon reports that MLS side LA Galaxy had been interested in agreeing terms with the player, but Feltscher’s preference is to remain in the English game after being impressed by the second tier.

The Verdict

Cardiff are battling at the top of the division as manager Neil Warnock attempts to guide the club to a Premier League return, and Feltscher could make all the difference as the Bluebirds head into the busy Christmas period.

Injuries and suspensions during this spell are always a hanging threat, and adding the Venezuelan to the squad would mark an excellent piece of business.

Feltscher is an impressive player, and many were surprised that Birmingham did not snap the player up, but the Blues loss will be Cardiff’s gain, and Warnock will be delighted to see the player sign on the dotted line in the near future.
