Cardiff City close to deal for midfielder

Cardiff City are close to the signing of midfielder Jonny Hayes from Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen, reports HITC Sport.

The Republic of Ireland international has attracted interest from a number of clubs in the Sky Bet Championship, including Leeds United and Barnsley.

However the 29-year old’s likely destination is Cardiff, where manager Neil Warnock is looking to re-build his side in a bid to avoid relegation.

It is believed that Hayes, who has previously had spells with Reading and Leicester City, is keen on a move back to England.

Despite failing to impress during his time in England, the winger has shone since moving to Scotland.

A productive spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle led to a move to Aberdeen, where Hayes has made nearly 200 appearances over a five-year spell.

Hayes has impressed in the first half of the 2016/17 season, scoring five goals in 16 appearances- including the winner in a 1-0 victory over Hearts in their last league outing.
