Neil Warnock's Cardiff City take on Garry Monk's Sheffield Wednesday in what is sure to be one of the highlights of the upcoming round of Championship fixtures, with the game at the Cardiff City Stadium set to take place under the lights on Friday evening.

Warnock's side head into the game against the Owls off the back of a good run of form which has seen them suffer just one defeat in their last five league outings, whilst Monk's Sheffield Wednesday side have won all but two of their last five games.

The match is sure to provide a tough test for the Bluebirds, and the former Sheffield United boss was quick to talk up the tie whilst giving his pre-match press conference today.

Quoted by Wales Online, he said:

“They’re a decent team, they’ve had a good start...

"There are quite a few things that make this game exciting.”

With both teams looking to move up the table, it will definitely provide a fascinating encounter to kick off the weekend's Championship games.

The Verdict

This is sure to be a pulsating encounter between two sides who will surely have ambitions to be competing amongst the promotion and playoff spots come the end of the season, after what has been a relatively slow start from both the Owls and Bluebirds so far.

Warnock will no doubt be looking to take advantage of Wednesday's defensive frailties by asking his team adopt their usual direct approach which focuses heavily on the use of long balls and crosses out wide to create chances for the likes of Robert Glatzel and Callum Paterson.

Glatzel will be hoping to make his mark against the Owls on Friday night, with the German having only found the net on two occasions since joining the Welsh club from German side FC Heidenheim this summer.

With both sides in good form heading into the tie, this could either turn out to be a goal filled bonanza or a cagey stalemate between the two.
