Mats Daehli, John Brayford, Adam Le Fondre, Matt Connolly and now top goalscorer Kenwyne Jones, are just five of many players who have been shown the exit door by Cardiff City boss Russell Slade following huge budget-cuts.

Could Russell Slade be adding another striker to his Cardiff squad?
Slade has struggled to revitalise the Welsh club this season

Slade, 54, took the Cardiff City job after the departure of former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has not hesitated to let the Cardiff City faithful know his disappointment in some of the fans' favourite players at the Cardiff City Stadium.

12 players have left the Welsh side since Slade took charge back in October, and he now insists it is now his preferred side to be going into the summer transfer window.

“When it comes to the summer, it remains very important that some players need to be off the books because budgets need to be brought to a sustainable level,” Slade told Wales Online.

“Saying that, we will need to be bringing new players in as well. I believe getting the budget levels down does not mean we will not be competitive next season. Slade added.

The budget cuts came at somewhat of a bad period on the field for the Bluebirds as they could only pick up three points from a possible 12 in January.

With just seven games of the Sky Bet Championship season to go, Russell is looking for a strong finish to go into the summer for the 15-16 season.

“There will be money for me to spend on transfers, it’s not about outlining how much that will be. I firmly believe we will be competitive and our aim at the start of the season will be to reach the play-off places as a minimum.”
