Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba has revealed that Neil Warnock is open to a return to management following his departure from the Bluebirds on Monday afternoon.

Warnock saw his three-year reign at the Cardiff helm come to an end by mutual consent in the aftermath of his side's 1-0 defeat to Bristol City, which leaves them languishing in 14th in the Championship table heading into the international break.

The 70-year-old has been unable to make Cardiff the formidable entity they were during their promotion-winning 2017/18 season, and this has ultimately cost him his job in the Welsh capital earlier than expected.

Bamba was one of Warnock's first signings following his appointment at the Bluebirds in October 2016, and the defender has been a trusted servant for the former Rotherham boss since, despite the fact he has largely missed the last seven months with injury.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Bamba has now revealed that Warnock's exit from the club may not signal the end of his managerial career altogether, as he is apparently preparing for another challenge in the near future.

"He's going to go away for a week with his family and then he is going to be ready to go again because what is for sure is that he's going to take another job that's what he told me," he said.

"I don't know if he is going to be happy for me to say that but he definitely said he is not done yet."

The Verdict

This is an interesting development given that Warnock had previously admitted he would be looking to retire from management at the end of the season, while there does not appear to be a clear next destination for the 70-year-old.

Warnock was extremely well-suited to Cardiff in terms of his personality and tactical approach, and it had seemed like a good place for him to end his long managerial career given the relationship he developed with the fans in South Wales.

However, the fact Warnock's reign ended on something of a sour note means he will probably now be keen to sign off from management on a high, and this may have prompted his decision to seek further work.
