Cardiff City want to sign Josh Windass this summer but they face competition from Burnley, according to a report by The Scottish Sun.

Rangers midfielder Windass could leave Ibrox this summer with this Premier League pair keen.

It is thought that Rangers will slap a £3m price tag on Windass amid growing interest in their midfield man, whose current deal runs until 2021.

Windass joined Rangers in two years ago on a pre-contract agreement after impressing for Accrington Stanley in League Two.

Cardiff are hoping to snap Windass up this summer to add some quality to their midfield ranks after winning promotion via the automatic spots in the Championship.

Neil Warnock is hoping to bring in five or six new players this summer to bolster this side ahead of a Premier League survival bid and Windass could be on his wishlist.

But Burnley are also interested in the 24-year-old, who can play on the wing or in the middle.

The Clarets can offer Windass the chance to play Europa League football after they secured a 7th place finish in the top flight this term.

Windass could be one of nine players axed by Rangers this summer as new manager Steven Gerrard starts his summer revamp.

The Verdict

Windass lacks Premier League experience but he has a lot of attacking talent.

With 17 goals in 40 games for Rangers this season, including 12 goals and six assists in the Scottish Premiership, Windass is one of the top players north of the border.

If the Gers are willing to let him go to generate funds for new players, then their loss could be Cardiff's gain as they look to enter a new era for the club.
