Nicky Butt says that he 'cant't wait' for Leeds United to return to the Premier League.

The Manchester United favourite is no stranger to the rivalry that takes place between both clubs, however that relationship has cooled somewhat in recent years.

Leeds have been out of the top flight for almost 16 years, however both sides will go head-to-head in the FA Youth Cup this week, with Butt saying that his players are very aware of just how much this fixture means.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Butt said: "I've been to many Leeds games from when I was younger with my uncle, my cousin and my dad and I went to Elland Road a good few times as a younger kid.

“I didn't need explaining what the rivalry is!

"But it's a healthy rivalry; Leeds are a great club, a massive club and I can't wait for them to get back into the Premier League, if I'm honest.

“Because it's part of a healthy, really good rivalry we have and our lads will know about it.

"We've had several meetings this week with the youth team coach, talking about the rivalry and history.

“But I think you've got to be careful about it with kids, because if you go on too much about the rivalry you forget about the actual game."

Can you remember Leeds' first 12 results this season?

The verdict

Leeds United need to get themselves back to winning ways.

While they're still in the automatic promotion spots in the Championship, the momentum has all-but gone as they look to secure a return to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are one of the most entertaining sides to watch in the second tier but it means nothing if they aren't picking up the required points.

vLeeds need to start putting the ball in the back of the net if they're to avoid slipping up like last term.
