Former Premier League midfielder Matt Taylor has announced his decision to retire from football at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old, who currently plays for Swindon Town in League Two, made the announcement via social media earlier today by posting a message on his personal Twitter feed.

Taylor started his career with Luton Town and would go on to make over 700 appearances for the likes of Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers, West Ham United and Burnley.

Former teammates of the player and fans of the clubs he played for were quick to react to the news via social media, thanking the player and congratulating him on his brilliant career.

Portsmouth fans also took to social media to pay tribute to Taylor, who spent six years of his career at Fratton Park.

Taylor would go on to make over 150 appearances for Pompey and helped the the club win promotion to the Premier League in 2003.

He scored some memorable goals during his time at on the south coast, including some spectacular long-range strikes against Sunderland and Everton.

Pompey fans expressed their thanks to the player for the memories he has given them over the years and wished him all the best for the future.
