Bristol City crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday after suffering a dramatic penalty-shootout defeat to fellow Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Despite forward Famara Diedhiou giving the Robins an early lead at Loftus Road, the hosts levelled almost immediately through Nahki Wells before Ilias Chair put the R’s ahead.

Undeterred by this setback, City responded before the stroke of half-time as full-back Jack Hunt scored his first goal of the season.

After a quiet start to the second-half, Robins midfielder Liam Walsh fired in a stunning long-range free-kick to put his side within touching distance of the second round of the Carabao Cup.

However, after Wells was brought down in the penalty area in the 86th minute, the R’s equalised once again as Ryan Manning dispatched duly converted from the spot.

With the Robins and the Hoops unable to be separated in regular time, the clash went to a penalty-shootout.

Whereas both Matthew Smith and Yoann Barbet ended up missing their spot-kicks for the R’s, Diedhiou, Niclas Eliasson and Bailey Wright all failed to beat Liam Kelly which resulted in the hosts securing a 5-4 victory on penalties following a 3-3 draw.

After witnessing their side suffer their second defeat of the 2019/20 campaign, plenty of City fans took to Twitter to react to the shock cup exit.

Here are some of the best responses from the club’s supporters…

The Robins will be aiming to get revenge on the Hoops when the two sides meet at Ashton Gate on Saturday in the Championship.
