Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has revealed that midfielder Beram Kayal has temporarily returned to parent club Brighton for further treatment following his latest injury setback.

Kayal joined Charlton on a season-long loan deal from the Seagulls over the summer, but he has so far struggled to make any serious impact at The Valley due to his recurring injury problems.

The 31-year-old has managed just six outings for the South London outfit until now, with his most recent appearance coming in the 2-1 defeat to local rivals Millwall prior to the most recent international break.

Speaking to South London Press, Bowyer has now revealed that Kayal has temporarily returned to the south coast for treatment on his latest setback after he received an injection while on international duty with Israel.

“He went back to Brighton and had an injection while he was away [on international duty with Israel]. But I don’t think that his injury is as straightforward as we thought. We’re waiting on Brighton to see what they are saying," he said.

SLP reporter Richard Cawley took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to share the latest news on Kayal:
