Aston Villa's season is drifting faster and faster towards one of significant disappointment following another loss last weekend. 

The trip to Wigan Athletic ended in despair as the home side romped to a 3-0 victory against Dean Smith's men in what was a shoddy display from the visitors.

It left the club languishing in 12th place with 27 matches played this season, five points behind Derby County who currently occupy the final play-off place.

The fans were given something to excite them for the future today, however, when it was announced that young attacking-midfielder Jacob Ramsey had signed his first professional contract with the club.

17-year-old Ramsey has scored an impressive four goals in nine under-18 fixtures so far this season as well as scoring once in five appearances for the under-23s.

Villa fans are very proud of their youth system, although would like to see more used in the first-team squad, but were happy with the news.
