When Elland Road was at full or near capacity, there was always a feeling that the expectation from the fans got to the players.

More often than not the team would fail to live up to the occasion and lose crucial games.

Boasting over 20,000 season ticket sales this season, a healthy increase of 6,000 from a relatively successful campaign when Garry Monk was in charge, Leeds' supporters are flocking to Elland Road more than ever.

So, with such a good start and the inevitable increase in expectation, could this Leeds United team hold up?

Last season, that expectation got the better of Monk’s squad.

Crucial games against Newcastle United, Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers come to mind.

New coach Thomas Christiansen believes that his players are coping well, so far.

Average attendances are now over 30,000 for home games.

Leeds’ destruction of Burton Albion was a test in more ways than one.

Considering that the Elland Road club struggled somewhat to overcome The Brewers last season, winning with two late goals, it was expected that Burton this time would be put to the sword. And indeed they were!

The players Christiansen has recruited appear so far to be of higher calibre and even established players such as Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper seem to cope with it all and have improved by some margin.

The real test will be in the coming month where Leeds will face stiff tests against Ipswich Town and away fixtures at Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday.
