Huddersfield Town are amongst the Championship clubs reportedly interested in a move for Jacob Bedeau at Scunthorpe United.

The 20-year-old’s contract with the Irons is running into its final months, with The Athletic revealing that Huddersfield join Barnsley, Rotherham United and Luton Town in holding an interest in the defender.

Here, our team of writers discuss the links with the former Aston Villa player…

Saturday's performance would suggest he is very much needed!

Obviously it would be a step up to play in the Championship from Scunthorpe but there are plenty of signs to suggest that Bedeau will be able to handle it. He is very young but he is a strong, modern defender who will only improve under the guidance and coaching of Carlos Corberan. And, they clearly need one more centre-back through the door in the New Year.

This is the sort of signing the Terriers need to make as they don't have the budget to compete with many in the Championship, so finding gems in the lower leagues is the way to go. It would be a great move for the player as well, so hopefully it comes off.

It's extremely difficult to tell whether Huddersfield need this type of signing. Whilst the Terriers have kept just three clean sheets in their 12 Championship matches this term, conceding 17 times in the process, Bedeau has no previous experience of playing at this level.

Bedeau has featured heavily for Scunthorpe this season, but that's at League Two level and if he was to make the jump up, he'd be quite far down the pecking order at Huddersfield.

Having said that, he's only 20-years-old, despite making his EFL debut more than four years ago and was then signed by Aston Villa - so is quite clearly a future prospect.

You can see why the interest is there.

Bedeau is enjoying a decent spell at Scunthorpe and certainly looks like a player who has all the qualities to develop into a top EFL player.

He's strong, firm in the tackle, and is adept at spraying long-range passes to initiate attacks, what's very impressive about the 20-year-old is his ability to carry the ball up the pitch, he has a lot of confidence given his age.

In my eyes, the Terriers could do with embedding some youth into the centre-back slots with Richard Stearman past his best, and Bedeau looks a real shrewd option.

He's athletic and strong in the air, and of course, there are some naive tendencies in his play still, but, he has all the foundations in place to develop and under Carlos Corberan, there aren't many better managers in the EFL who have the ability to develop and nurture youth.

This makes sense.
