This time five years ago, Portsmouth were playing their trade in the Barclays Premier League, but things have changed significantly for the club since their FA Cup triumph in 2008.

Pompey, who first entered administration five years ago, have since been on steady decline down the divisions, suffering three relegations in five years, and it's hard for Portsmouth fans to have something to cheer about.

However, they are currently top of Sky Bet League Two, having lost just one of their opening twelve matches, leaving them strong contenders for promotion to the third tier of English football. They overcame Cambridge United 3-1 yesterday to stay top of the league.

Portsmouth, who are able to fill Fratton Park week in and week out in League Two, are finally starting to make a profit. They have made £118,000 in their first year of trading, which is certainly a start to bring back what money they once had playing under the lights of the world's media in the Premier League.

Pompey's last trophy was in 2008, when they incredibly won the FA Cup after beating Cardiff City 1-0 in the final at Wembley, the winning goal courtesy of Nwankwo Kanu.

Until this date, that remains their latest major trophy.

If Portsmouth can secure promotion this year, they have a chance to mount a climb back towards the Premier League.

They are certainly heading in the right direction after years of plummeting the wrong way.

This will allow their long-suffering fans to dream once again about playing Premier League giants such as Arsenal and Manchester United once again.
