Cameron Jerome sends Huddersfield Town warning to Nottingham Forest ahead of the play-off final

Nottingham Forest travel to Wembley this weekend as they prepare to take on Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final.

It’s sure to be a close affair with both teams possessing plenty of quality and former Derby County striker Cameron Jerome has warned Nottingham Forest of the Terriers’ threat.

The 35-year-old has plenty of experience against Huddersfield the season having faced them not only in the league but also across the two legs of the play-off semi-finals.

Discussing their quality, the striker told Football Daily’s 72+ podcast: “Tactically, the manager’s got them in a low block formation, they don’t commit too many bodies forward, they’re quite structured in the way they play and rigid.

“But what they have got is energy – in the wide areas, full-backs and there wingers – and they have good legs in midfield in terms of O’Brien and Jonathan Russell.

“And they’ve got a goalkeeper who’s probably one of the best in the league, so they don’t concede many goals, they don’t concede many chances, they’re not very expansive and they stay in the game.

“They score a lot of goals from set-pieces – I think they’re the highest scorers from set-pieces in the league – and they’re tactically good, and I think you’ve got to give the manager a lot of credit.”

Did Garry Birtles play more games for Forest in his first or second spell at the club?

The Verdict:

There’s no doubting that Huddersfield have done a brilliant job this season especially when you consider their final league position last season.

Jerome is right in saying that Carlos Corberan deserves a lot of credit because the turnaround has clearly been pushed by him through the way he has got the Terriers playing and the change in mindset at the club.

The Luton striker has faced Huddersfield enough this season to know just how tough they are as opponents, especially as they lost to them in the play-offs.

However, Nottingham Forest will be hoping that they are able to overcome Town in the final on Sunday as they continue their preparations for the game.
