Bournemouth are facing a huge summer period as they look to go one better next season and ensure that they mount a successful promotion bid in 2021/22.

The Cherries will first need to sort out their managerial situation with the latest report from The Sun suggesting that manager Jonathan Woodgate is set to leave the club and that he could be replaced by Fulham’s Scott Parker. If that happens then it would be a major statement of intent.

Whoever comes in as manager will have the nucleus of a really strong squad for the Championship. Although, there are one or two rumours around the futures of a handful of their star men.

The Cherries’ squad at the moment looks pretty strong following the announcement of their retained list and they are being linked with one or two arrivals as well.

With all this in mind, we take an early look at what the Cherries’ starting line-up could look like next term…

At the moment Asmir Begovic is still a member of the Bournemouth squad, despite there having been some reports that he could leave this summer. However, the experienced stopper might well still stay with the Cherries with him contracted to the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international managed to enjoy a strong campaign in the Championship last term and he managed to record 15 clean sheets in the regular campaign and average 2.7 saves per match.

That shows that the 33-year-old is still a very quality goalkeeper at Championship level and he might well be crucial to helping them challenge for promotion.

Begovic is likely to potentially attract one or two suitors, but it does seem at this stage that he could be seeing out the final year of his deal with the club. He will continue to be amongst the division’s best between the sticks if he sticks around.

At the moment Bournemouth are set to lose defender Adam Smith at the end of his current deal with the club. The Cherries have confirmed within their retained list that he has indeed been offered a potential new deal to remain with them, but also that he is assessing his other potential options.

Were Smith not to sign the new deal that has been offered to him by Bournemouth then it would present a real chance for Jack Stacey to cement himself as their first-choice right-back in the Championship next term.

Stacy arrived at Bournemouth with a really strong reputation after producing a string of impressive performances for Luton Town. The 25-year-old has at times found himself out of favour for the Cherries in his natural right-back role, but he still managed to make 32 league appearances last term.

This one might be a little too early to have called, but at the moment it does seem entirely possible that Cameron Carter-Vickers could make a return to Bournemouth this summer.

The latest reports that have emerged from The Athletic have suggested that the Cherries have indeed made enquiries to Tottenham Hotspur over the prospect of securing a permanent move for the defender this summer.

That comes following the centre-backs impressive loan spell with the club that saw him make 23 league appearances and score one goal and provide one assist in that time.

If Bournemouth can manage to secure his signature then it would be a popular addition to the squad and show that the Cherries are serious about challenging for promotion. Surely they have to do all they can to make sure that he is in their side again next term.

A few weeks ago, former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was well in the frame for the vacant managerial position at Celtic. Whilst those rumours were ongoing there were reports that he would be interested in taking his former defender with him to Glasgow.

However, since then, Howe has not been given the Celtic job and now there have been reports from Kris Temple that Cook has actually signed a new deal with the club ‘behind the scenes.’

That does suggest that the experienced defender will still be a member of their squad next season in the Championship. After missing out on the second leg of their play-off semi-final against Brentford through injury, he will be eager to get back to fitness as soon as possible ahead of next term.

Cook is surely a player that has to still to be starting at Bournemouth if he remains with the club as expected now. His leadership qualities and experience are vital to their side.

This is much more of a straight forwards one with Bournemouth’s left-back at the start of next term highly likely to be Lloyd Kelly, although Diego Rico is another option to consider in that position.

Kelly managed to get his career at Bournemouth up and running last season after what was an injury-hit 2019/20 campaign following his arrival from Bristol City.

The left-back managed to make 38 Championship appearances and showed his quality with one goal and four assists, as well as helping the Cherries record 11 clean sheets in the regular campaign.

The 22-year-old should only continue to get better in a Bournemouth shirt and you would expect him to enjoy another promising season next term for them if he can stay injury-free throughout the campaign. It could be a massive season for the left-back where he really starts to repay the transfer fee that the club paid for him.

Admittedly, Jefferson Lerma is set to miss the opening six matches of next season after his punishment for biting Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass during a 1-0 defeat at Hillsborough back in November.

However, once that ban is over he should return to their strongest available starting line-up.

Lerma is a player that might also attract attention during the transfer window after he stuck around last term despite the Cherries dropping back down to the Championship.

The midfielder though is not close to an exit at this stage and if he does remain with the Cherries then he will likely be an instrumental player for them to have at the base of their midfield.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a strong campaign in the Championship last term and he fired in three goals in his 44 appearances, while he was also able to provide strong protection to the back four from the middle of the park when he was at his best.

The Cherries should be trying to ensure that the midfielder remains with them this summer, and if he does he might well be a key player for their potential promotion push.

The 2021/22 season is a massive one for midfielder Ben Pearson you feel, the former Manchester United player will need to assert himself on the Bournemouth side and fully convince that he is worthy of commanding a regular starting place in the side.

The former Preston North End enforcer is an excellent player at Championship level and he showed glimpses of the qualities that he brings to this Bournemouth side during the second half of the campaign. The 26-year-old will be crucial to breaking up the play of their opponents and keeping the back four well guarded from the middle of the park.

Pearson often gets overlooked in terms of the quality he can deliver in possession of the ball as well though. His three assists in 18 appearances for the Cherries demonstrates he can create as well as destruct from his holding midfield role.

Again, assuming that David Brooks stays at Bournemouth might be a little presumptuous at this stage in the transfer window.

However, at the moment there are no real concrete rumours emerging that suggest that he will be prized away from the Cherries before the start of the 2021/22 season.

If Brooks does remain with the Cherries then he has to be one of the first names on their team sheet if he can show that he can maintain his fitness. The attacker managed to score five goals and register seven assists during his 34 appearances for them in the Championship last term and he will be hoping to produce more end product next term.

You feel that next season is going to be a crucial one in terms of the general direction that Brooks’ career is heading in. The 23-year-old will be aiming to produce a little more consistently next term if he remains in the Championship, and if he can do that then he will be a major potential match-winner for Bournemouth.

Another player that it might be a little too early to suggest will stick around for Bournemouth this summer is Phillip Billing.

The midfielder might well be a player in demand after his excellent form during the second half of the campaign in particular last season in the Championship.

He was switched to a more advanced midfield role by Woodgate in the back half of the season and it culminated in Billing showing some brilliant and consistent performances. The 24-year-old finished the campaign with eight goals and four assists in his 36 league appearances for the Cherries.

If Billing does remain at the club this summer then Bournemouth need to make him stay in that more advanced attacking midfield position. You could see him excelling again for the Cherries if he is allowed to maintain in that area of the field and he might go on to continue his impressive attacking output into next term.

There have been a few assumptions made over potential futures of players at Bournemouth in this starting line-up, and this is another one and it would of course require Junior Stanislas to sign the extension that has been offered to him by the Cherries.

Bournemouth are looking likely to lose Arnaut Danjuma, who is thought to be attracting the intentions of Leicester City, as well as the likes of Southampton and West Ham United. That suggests it is going to be very difficult for the Cherries to ensure that he remains with them for another season.

If Danjuma goes, Bournemouth will have to bring in a replacement and you would expect them to do so in the summer window. However, short on that for now they would have to convince Stanislas to accept the offer of a new deal that is on the table for him.

The attacker managed to fire in ten goals in his 35 Championship appearances last term, so he has to be a player that is worth keeping hold of. It could all come down to the offers he receives from other potential suitors.

This is one of the most straight forwards selections in this starting line-up. Dominic Solanke is all but assured of his place as Bournemouth’s main striker in the Championship once again during the 2021/22 season, unless anything major happens with his fitness or an unexpected offer comes in.

Solanke managed to get his Bournemouth career up and running last season after what was a very difficult start to his time at the club in the Premier League.

The expensive signing from Liverpool managed to justify some of the fee the Cherries paid for him a few windows ago by firing home 15 goals and providing eight assists in his 42 Championship appearances last term.

Next season, Bournemouth will hope for even more goals out of the forward and they should be able to still create plenty of chances for him in the final third with this potential line-up.
