Ipswich Town defender Cameron Burgess said the club's performance over Exeter City was "solid".

Goals from Freddie Ladapo and Marcus Harness were enough to earn the Tractor Boys all three points away in Devon.

Of course, the defensive contributions of Burgess, who was in for his first start since suffering a facial fracture back in September.

Reflecting on the match, he told TWTD: "It was good from a defensive point of view to get a clean sheet with a solid performance."

“They are a top side but we were well prepared for what they were going to bring, so it was a pleasing result.

“It was good to be out there helping the team after a bit of time out. The competition is strong and we work hard to make sure anyone can step in at any time.

“The fans can see it’s strong and there are no dips in performance when people change, which is testament to all the boys, how they train and how they go about things.”

With the three points, Ipswich Town closed the gap on League One leaders Plymouth Argyle, with Argyle dropping points away at Burton Albion.

Town are now just two points behind Argyle having both played 19 matches.

The Verdict

Another big three points on the board for Ipswich Town yesterday, and another clean sheet in the bag, too.

Indeed, the Tractor Boys continue to look really strong contenders for automatic promotion, and arguably, the best side in League One.

Crucially, they were able to close the gap on Plymouth yesterday, with Argyle slipping up at Burton Albion late on.

With Sheffield Wednesday in the mix, too, the promotion race down in League One looks a really really exciting one as we approach the half way point in the season.
