Leeds United might be surprised that Cameron Borthwick-Jackson topped a list of 30 players born after 1997 compiled by data company Scisport as recently as Feburary 2017.

The Manchester United left-back has followed up a poor loan spell with Wolves by failing to impress since he temporarily joined their bitter rivals Leeds United.

Less than a year ago, the numbers had him above youngsters including Marcus Rashford and Ousmane Dembele, who is the world's third most expensive player after joining Barcelona in the summer.

Wolves playmaker Ruben Neves was also on the list, with the numbers placing him in ninth position but there is no doubt who made a bigger impression at Molineux with the former Porto man one of the main driving forces between the rise of Nuno Santo's men.

The Verdict

Stats have their place in modern football but this goes to show that you can use them to prove anything and sometimes the numbers get it very wrong.

Borthwick-Jackson has not impressed since his initial spell with Manchester United under Louis van Gaal and he is not even the best left-back option at Leeds right now, let alone the best player around born after 1997.
