Coventry City are arguably closing in on a romantic return to the Championship this term, with Mark Robins having led his side to the top of the League One standings with just over 10 games left to play in the third division.

Much of the club's best play has come via their star striker Matt Godden, with the former Peterborough United frontman having notched an impressive 13 goals in 25 league games since arriving at the Midlands club back in the summer of 2019.

Godden's goal scoring exploits and all round style of play can potentially be compared to former Coventry star Callum Wilson, with the Sky Blues having been crying out for an out and out goalscorer since the latter departed for Bournemouth back in 2014 after netting 23 goals in just over 50 games for the Midlands outfit.

Staying on the subject of the comparison between Wilson and Godden, we felt now was a good time for Football League World Journalist Chris Thorpe to ask members of the Coventry City fans forum on Facebook for their opinion on whether Godden is the best striker the club have had since Wilson or not.

Naturally this question yielded a flurry of responses from the Sky Blues faithful via social media earlier today.

Paul Sedgley: No, not really Wilson was Premier League quality.

Kev Morson: Are you forgetting Simeon Jackson?

Kyle Flynn: Probably up there with Adam Armstrong and Marc McNulty in terms of impact.

Matty Lee: I'd probably put Armstrong and McNulty above him to be fair.

Harvey Jack Travers: Tudgay.

Chris Knott: John Hartson played 12 games for us, scoring six goals in the process, a lot of people forget that.

Simon Loveitt: McNulty was a much better finisher than Godden.

John Squire: Wilson was the better out of the two by a country mile - top striker!
