Having seen his side make a successful start to the 2019/20 campaign in the Championship, West Bromwich Albion manager Slaven Bilic opted to make several alterations to his roster at the Hawthorns during the January transfer window.

As well as signing Kamil Grosicki, Lee Peltier and Callum Robinson, the Croatian allowed Callum Morton to make a temporary exit from the club.

After being used exclusively by the Baggies at youth level earlier in the opening months of the season, the forward was loaned out to League Two side Northampton Town.

Since making this particular switch, Morton has taken his game to new heights by featuring regularly for the Cobblers.

Following a cameo appearance during the club's victory over Scunthorpe United in January, the 20-year-old marked his full-debut by scoring the winning goal in Northampton's meeting with Macclesfield Town.

However, after failing to impress against Port Vale, Morton was replaced by Andy Williams in the Cobblers' starting eleven for their 1-0 defeat to league leaders Swindon Town last month.

Undeterred by this setback, the forward was recalled to the side by Northampton manager Keith Curle after an underwhelming display by his team-mate Vadaine Oliver during the aforementioned fixture.

Although he was unable to prevent the Cobblers from suffering defeat at the hands of Walsall, Morton took his individual goal-tally to three as he netted a brace at the Bescot Stadium.

After illustrating some real signs of promise during Northampton's clashes with Exeter City and Cheltenham Town, the loanee produced arguably his best performance to date last Saturday against Grimsby Town by netting two goals in a 3-0 victory.

By continuing to deliver the goods on a consistent basis for the Cobblers between now and the end of the season, Morton may play a pivotal role in helping the club secure promotion to League One.

Currently sixth in the fourth-tier standings, Northampton could potentially close the gap between them and the automatic promotion places to four points on Saturday by beating Mansfield Town at the PTS Academy Stadium.
