Sunderland defender Callum Doyle has taken to Instagram to share a message after he scored his first goal for the club in their meeting with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 18-year-old, who joined the Black Cats on a temporary basis in the summer transfer window, made his 23rd league appearance at the Stadium of Light yesterday.

Sunderland managed to back up their recent 3-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers by dismantling Darren Moore's side as they produced a stunning display in-front of their supporters.

Ross Stewart opened the scoring for the Black Cats in the 12th minute as he fired past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

The Sunderland forward then doubled his side's advantage before Doyle added a third for the hosts.

Following the break, Stewart completed his hat-trick as he headed home from Bailey Wright's cross.

Benji Kimpioka netted Sunderland's fifth goal of the contest in the 75th minute as the club sealed a memorable triumph.

The Black Cats are now top of the League One standings and will be determined to push on at this level in the coming weeks.

After his side's latest victory, Doyle took to Instagram to share a message with the club's supporters.

The defender posted an image of himself celebrating his goal with the caption: "What a way to end the year."

The Verdict

Doyle once again illustrated that he is more than capable of thriving at this level during yesterday's meeting with the Owls as he produced another impressive display.

As well as scoring his first goal for the club, the defender won two aerial duels and made four clearances at the Stadium of Light (as per WhoScored).

Currently averaging a respectable WhoScored match rating of 6.80 in the third-tier, the defender could potentially play a major role for the club as they look to launch a push for automatic promotion in the New Year.

By maintaining his form as well his fitness in the coming months, Doyle is likely to make further strides in terms of his development.
