Cafu says that Nottingham Forest teammate and Portuguese compatriot Yuri Ribeiro is a "very good professional" as the club look to make a decision on his future.

Ribeiro joined Forest from Benfica in the summer of 2019 and was a regular under Sabri Lamouchi last season, making 27 appearances in the Championship and establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in the division.

This season, the 24-year-old has made only 23 league appearances, and he has been unable to replicate those level of performances from last season.

Ribeiro is out of contract in the summer, and having featured in only two of the Reds' last 10 matches due to falling behind Tyler Blackett in the pecking order, it remains to be seen what decision is taken on the full-back's future.

"I don't know what the situation is," Cafu told yesterday's press conference about the prospect of his teammate staying beyond this season.

"You would have to ask the club or ask him.

"All I can say, though, is that he is a very good professional and a very good friend."

Ribeiro is particularly close to Cafu having both come through the ranks at Benfica, and the left-back has helped him to settle in since his move from Olympiacos in October.

Cafu only arrived on loan initially, but his move to the City Ground was made permanent in February having impressed during his loan spell.
