Birmingham City got themselves safe on the final day in the Championship with a win over Fulham.

After 2016/17 proved tense and dramatic, this season followed suit despite an aggressive transfer policy in the summer window last year.

Certainly, then, Garry Monk has work to do in the coming market to get the Blues out of the cycle but there is hope and rightly so.

Time now, then, to take a look-back at some of the highlights of the West Midlands side's year:

Kicking off with our Player of the Year for the club, it's Jacques Maghoma. The winger might not get the headlines of a Jota or Che Adams but the winger was the most consistent and reliable performer in a tough year for the Blues.

We give the Young Player award, meanwhile, to Jeremie Boga. The loanee put on some stellar displays during the year and is someone the Blues would surely like to keep.

Our goal of the season also features Boga. He brought the ball down from a corner against Sheffield United, took a couple of touches and then whipped an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Effortless.

Another arrival takes the Signing of the Year award, though, as Harlee Dean proved a solid acquisition. Blues have got some good centre-halves and the former Brentford man showed some sturdy attributes in his first season.

Undoubtedly, the Performance of the Year came at the weekend as, when they needed it most, they produced a fine win over a Fulham side on a massive unbeaten streak.

And, finally, Steve Cotterill wins the Quote of the Year. He struggled at the club and felt whoever else would come in would do the same. Garry Monk looks to have proven otherwise.
