Sunderland will be looking for one thing, and one thing only this season, and that is to bounce straight back up in the Championship, following their disappointing bottom placed finish last season.

Already with a handful of new signings on the books under new manager Jack Ross, the Black Cats will certainly be looking to secure a few more deals before the end of the transfer window.

Despite the new additions, the Black Cats are without a win in their first two preseason friendlies however, after a 1-1 draw with Hartlepool and a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Darlington thus far.

Jack Ross will be hoping to bolster his squad further going into the new season, and get Sunderland playing free flowing football once again.

After last season’s displays, it might take more than just a few new players to get this Sunderland side back into England’s second tier.

But, here are the deals that Sunderland need to secure this summer to get a buzz back at the Stadium of Light.

Having been linked with the Reading midfielder on a number of occasions, it seems that this deal is about to be completed.

The 23-year-old defensive middle man was one of Jack Ross’ top targets from the moment he arrived at the Stadium of Light, and with his composed attitude, could bring stability to the Sunderland midfield.

Evans has begun to fall out of favour at the Royals, having started just nine games in the Championship last season, so it could be a signing that suits all parties involved.

With uncertainty over who will be Sunderland’s first choice keeper this coming season, perhaps it is time that a Black Cats manager put faith in a young shot stopper.

Simone Scuffet might not be a household name, but after making six starts in Serie A for Udinese last season, is certainly one to keep an eye out for.

The 22-year-old keeper has bags of potential, and while the move would be a drop in divisions for him, a transfer to English football might be too hard to say no to.

Sunderland’s lack of goal scoring threat can be seen from their preseason results so far, but the addition of Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke could be one to change that.

Having already had a six figure bid turned down for the former Middlesbrough forward, shows that Bradford won’t be letting him go easily, but the shortage of attacking prowess needs to be halted, and Wyke could be the perfect man to do that.

Wyke has one year left on his contract, which could suit Sunderland, as the Bantams face the decision to either sell him now, or face losing him for nothing in twelve months’ time.

With the arrival of Aden Flint at Middlesbrough from fellow Championship side Bristol City, Ryan Shotton is on course to play second fiddle at the Riverside this coming season.

While a drop down to League One might not be the most appealing, at the age of 29, first team football at any club might be hard to come by for Shotton, who struggled last season.

Sunderland need tightening up defensively, and Shotton can bring experience and calmness to the Black Cats defence.
